The City

Chambéry is located in the south-east of France, in the region Rhône-Alpes, in the department of Savoie. It shares part of its border with Italy.

Chambéry is nicknamed “La Cité des Ducs” (“The Dukes’ Town”) and counts more than 124.000 inhabitants including its urban area (Le Bourget du Lac, La Motte-Servollex, Jacob-Bellecombette, Cognin…).

The city is enclosed in the Alps Mountains, surrounded by the Chartreuse, Belledonne and the Bauges. In winter, you can go to ski resorts located at 45 minutes of the city centre. In summer, you can discover the lakes and any kind of hikes.

Chambéry is located at 3 hours from Paris and Marseille with the TGV.

The Universities

Chambéry is an easy living city, appreciated by students for the quality of its infrastructures (transportations, accommodation…).

A lot of studies are possible, such as trade, management, languages, literacy or scientific fields:

  • Université de Jacob-Bellecombette: languages, literacy, law study, management…etc. This University is located on the heights of Chambery.
  • Université du Bourget du Lac/Technolac Campus: biology, sports, chemistry, researches…etc. The University is surrounded by several laboratories and companies.

These universities are part of the Université Savoie Mont-Blanc (USMB) which also includes the University of Annecy specialized in company management and entrepreneurship.

The University keeps developing its international network with other Universities in the world in order to attract more and more young foreigners who want to study and work in France and discover our country.

Culture / Entertainment

The History of Chambéry is rich due to the House of Savoy presence between the 13th and the 18th Century. Indeed, Chambéry used to be its capital city as well as a strategic point for their army to control the borders between Italy and France when Savoie was part of the Italian territory. By consequence, a lot of museums are dedicated to this period.

Chambéry is a small town where you can reach everything easily (with or without using public transports): shops, cinemas or museums.

The city keeps developing its cultural offer in order to attract people and foreigners. A lot of events are now organized such as concert, music and cultural festivals and so on.
