The City

Located in the Rhône-Alpes region, in the south-east of France, Lyon is the 3rd biggest city in France. Lyon is located in the Europe centre, between north Europe and south Europe. Lyon is at 2 hours from Paris with TGV. Its geographical location makes of Lyon a unique place in France. Half-way from mountains and sea, the number 2 is also present in the city:

  • 2 hills surround the city: Fourvière and Croix-Rousse
  • 2 rivers: the Rhône and the Saône, which created the particularity of the city: the "Presqu'île".

The Universities

Lyon is known as the second most important university area in France. This city welcomes more than 120.000 students every year, including 12.500 foreign students. Culture / Entertainment

Lyon owns a cultural and artistic heritage of great value. Two arts were born in Lyon: the cinema, which was invented by the Lumière brothers, and the "Théâtre de Guignol".

The town owns very known and modern cultural infrastructures, such as the "Maison de la danse de Lyon", the Auditorium in the area of Part-Dieu, which welcomes the "Orchestre National de Lyon", the Célestins' theatre and the National Opera House of Lyon where the best singers have performed.

This city is widely known for its gastronomy, thanks its many products of the soil. You can taste these specialties in the "Bouchons Lyonnais", which are small restaurants offering family recipes.
